Esplandae's Fund Raising
& 15th Anniversary 2017
BACKGROUND →
When the Esplanade first opened it's door, many SIngaporeans young and old flocked to watch a play or catch a concert. Many more wanted to see the building's unique architecture and it soon became the must-go place to be associated with the Arts. There was a sense of pride and achievement for many of us. At last we have an iconic building somewhat equivalent to the Opera House for the Australians. It was the place to promote Art for all Singaporeans to participate and watch all the world class performances or acts. Particularly when SIngapore started to progress and enjoy economic success, it was only natural that it's people begin to enjoy the finer things in life and continue to be entertained by quality shows or performances.
CHALLENGE →
The Esplanade was probably the most photographed place in Singapore at that time. However over a period of time, many Singaporeans started to shun away due to various reasons and is now seen as a place for tourists and expats. It is time we bring back the local crowd and give the Esplanade the local identity that all Singaporeans can take ownership.
Proposed Idea→
Jason and his team's proposal was to create a charity event and name it "MY ESPLANADE". This is to allow all Singaporeans to create a sense of ownership and draw them back to enjoy the best in Entertainment and Art have to offer in our theatre. Appropriately, this event is also in conjunction with "Esplanade's 15th Anniversary which makes the event a more prestigious one.
It it indeed the perfect opportunity to send the message across to all Singaporeans that the Esplanade was build for all of us and create a sense of belonging, hence the idea MY ESPLANADE is born.
The Event Icon
Jason and his team were proposing to use the thumbprint as a symbol of ownership. This will become the project's icon and is to be used throughout the event to instill in all Singaporean's minds that Esplanade belongs to the people and is Singaporean's pride and joy.
The thumbprint will leave a lasting impression of Singaporean identity reminding everyone that the Esplanade was built for our enjoyment.
My Identity
This is the main activity to get the public's involvement in having ownership of the Esplanade. Everyone is invited to put their thumbprint onto a canvas or a wall with the ink or paints provided. The prints will be controlled in such a manner that it is tastefully done. Eventually, a design will be created out of these thumbprints and will become a permanent fixture at the Esplanade. This activity could also be donation orientated where everyone who puts his or her thumbprint will need to pay $10 and the proceeds will go to the charity fund.
My Recollection
Past images and videos of the Esplanade will be showcased to bring back the memories of the Esplanade. The image can showcase on a wall designed in the shape of a thumbprint.
